Well no it's no good news but still it just made my day and will maybe help me going for a few more days.. (after that I would definitely need some more appreciation). Have been at this workplace (an advertising agency) for exactly a week now and the only thing I ever did was go thru this huge book of award winning ads and work on a couple of products as in making ads for them [unfortunately none of my ideas clicked my boss(es)]. But today was my day....was given a brief and I produced results (well good results) much before it was due. No I am not saying these are publish quality ads neither am I very satisfied with them but these are just what they (boss) were looking for to be sent to the client for approval. Now, whether they are published or no is secondary what just did make my day was appreciation :). This led me to think a lil on if it wasn't this appreciation then what exactly did keep me here for the past one week- it wasn't money ofcourse (I am not getting paid as for now- just a trainee), neither was advertising my passion (passion is one reason for which people can work endlessly n without remuneration atleast for a while- I did it once for my passion so I know), it was definitely not an amazing working atmosphere (atleast I recd a culture shock on my first day when people left, right and center were just abusing each other and not just abusing but ABUSING and I was ragged- what kinda workplace does it to a new trainee?). But after a couple of days I kinda adjusted but still do not feel like a 'fit' here...though the positives being this kinda informal atmosphere really helps...it's just hard initially after that you become one of them- bindaas. This reminds me of a conversation I had with one of my friends regarding this abusive working atmosphere where nobody cares about who's around and offences. He was of the view that it wouldn't have been all that bad and hard for him to digest since that was very normal in his college so since there wouldn't have been much difference between the two it would have rather been easier for him to adjust. Which made me say strongly enough to get my point across that, " there is a huge difference between college life and a workplace, they are not meant to be the same and thus workplace deserves a certain amount of discipline and decency. Some decorum should be maintained." To which he agreed.
Anyways coming back to the reason for sticking here- I guess one reason could be that it's a big organization, a big name (for me this means more exposure), interesting work (advertising has always interested me but somehow it never became a passion till now), but I think most importantly the fact that from day 1, each and every person I met had something to say (each one had their story and each one definitely had something to give for you to gain and learn). I think that's what has left me craving for more and more .....going deeper and deeper in this pool of knowledge. And ofcourse the primary reason for me to come here at the first place and sticking on despite knowing that "I may not be a fit for advertising", being my funda for trying everything out before rejecting it so that later when I do make the decision of precisely what I want to build a career in, I should have a clear idea as to what am I passionate about and where I am a misfit. Dont want to regret such a big decision ever thinking, "oh! I didn't try that, maybe I would have fared well there." So though I don't have much time to take that decision, I am going to make the most of whatever opportunity I have or get.
Moral of the blog being: think, think and think harder along with trying to justify your decision before making it, lest you regret it.
Wot say?

I think the movie "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is rightly named after this blog from DJ! ;)
One more case when an idle brain finds its place at blogging..
Nice one here..

[prateek] dont worry u dont need no preparation for that...it'll come wid time n experience...
[taru] well i cant agree more wid u on this.. ;)

trying everything out before rejecting it...and where I am a misfit.
Although I've always thought it would be interesting to try out all possible professions in the world before picking a career, I don't think I have the balls to actually do it. I hope you succeed at it.
college life and a workplace...not meant to be the same
On the contrary, most new economy enterprises are trying to create what they call a "collegiate atmosphere" in their offices (not necessarily the abusing part). It has proven to be more productive.
Btw: Could you let me know the name of that huge book of award winning ads? Advertising is not really my passion, but a very strong area of interest.
[Amateur Blogger] it would definitely be very interesting to try out all possible professions in the world but dont u think that'll be a lil difficult? though i wished to be an astronaut or an Indian Air Force fighter pilot wen i was much younger but i am definitely not looking forward to trying them out now, thanks to so many factors tht affect such decisions...what i meant by "trying out everything" here was tht professions that i CAN try out...related to my course of study...say the various options in media..advertising, TV production, news reporting, print, radio, PR ..to name a few. though even this decision is seen wid doubtful eyes by many but i think i'll stick to this Funda.
As far as "collegiate atmosphere" in offices is concerned i fully agree wid u that it may be more productive since the informal atmosphere makes interaction easy n fruitful..but here i was refering to specifically the abusing part...there shud obviously be some decency if not a formal atmosphere...one doesnt feel quite comfortable wen ppl around u start discussing their sex life n wt not despite the presence of a stranger (a new trainee)...n if tht wasnt enuf they try involving u in the conversation too!!! amazing!!
As for the book i wrote about was The One Show published every year...if ur interested in advertising even a wee bit this would prove to be very interesting...try getting hold of it. to start wid u can visit their website www.oneshow.com.
