Well behaved women never make history. That's my favorite line for now. Well describes my persona.

Are we impotent?

I would like to share an article (if I may call it) written by Manjari based on her own experience. The reason I want to share this with everyone is the fact that when I was reading this article, it seemed like Manjari stole all the words from my mouth before I could even say anything on the issue. I can't agree more with her on this. And I'm sure that'd be the case with most of the other women in Delhi who frequently use the public transport. Please note: What happened with Manjari was not an extreme event but something that happens "oh so often" with a woman in Delhi. Surprisingly! Read on...

What does the word "impotent" mean? In normal language we associate it with non performance in sexual realtionships. So men and women who are unable to "perform" are called impotent. More men than women fall in this category of human beings and most men who secretly or openly are impotent suffer a great deal of denigration with it. I would draw your attention to this word in an alltogether different sense. We as human beings are impotent, because, we have no potency to perform and to act except where it is most safe to do so. If we find weak people around us we can assert, dominate and manipulate. If there are people at par with us we can negotiate and if they are superior to us then we cooperate. The question arises till when or till what level.
Our conscious for all reasons has committed suicide for want of a hearing by our own selves and our self respect is flexible enough to withstand any pinching of this now diminished conscious. So what remains in our tattered bodies which we proudly display in full splendour of our flesh polished with nothing but a false sense of being. Today I was going in a DTC bus, a fairly crowded bus at 9 am in the morning . A man, well dressed was standing besides me. People were moving forward and backward as usually happens in any bus in Delhi. In this scene this man started masturbating. The moment I realized this I kicked him in his groin and as he turned on his back, on his behind. From the middle of the bus till the end I kicked this guy but not one person in this crowded bus could see anything strange in this happenning to catch hold of him, the conductor was faithfully doing his duty to earn his good salary from the govt. and the equally inert public was watching the scene unnfold so later they can laud the jhansi ki rani. Irrespective of the crowd the guy managed to get away and the public began the post mortem in earnest. The guys from behind-"arre you let the guy get away, I wasnt there in the front or I would have caught him", the conductor-"aree roz ki baat hai, hame to naukre karni hai", the guys in front-"piche walon ki maan behen nahi hain na, aree namard hain saale", lady besides me-"aurtain bas chup ho jaat hain tabhi toh...arre doob maro ladies ne peet diya", uncle ji besides me-"kya hua haat lagaya kya, itna mara use."
Every thing is a matter for gossip, no harm, then why cry when the same robbers who killed our neighbours break open our safe. We are impotent as a species and our daily endeavour is to prove it beyond doubt.
Let everyone read so no one can be in doubt of their celebrity status.

I share your concern. It is an aberration in a society where people used to be taught - yatra naryastu pujyante ramante tatra devta. Anybody insulting a woman or anybody keeping quiet when a woman is being insulted is impotent.
